In 2010 more than 2.5 million electronic workpapers were prepared and reviewed using Tic, Tie and Calculate™ (TTC).  TTC is currently licensed to over 10,000 accountants in more than 2,000 public and private accounting groups.     

TTC is an Adobe Acrobat plug-in designed for accountants.  It brings accounting centric functionality to Acrobat and allows accountants to effectively prepare and review digital workpapers in .PDF format.  TTC is used by more accountants than any other .PDF annotation tool in the market.  

TTC is NOT to be confused with the automated TAX SCAN / OCR products.  TTC is used in conjunction with TAX SCAN products as it allows them to “complete” their work once the PDF files are received back from the TAX SCAN vendors.  TTC is the only Acrobat plug-in that integrates with all third party TAX SCAN vendors and introduces ground-breaking new features never before available to accounting firms.   


THE CHALLENGES

These challenges are so widespread, that in 2010 over 5,000 accountants participated in cPaperless’s webcast series titled Using Adobe Acrobat To Prepare 1040 Workpapers.  

1.   A large number of accounting firms have shifted to a SCAN-UPFRONT process.  This means they immediately scan source documents when they are received from their clients.  The source documents now reside in .PDF format and must be modified with a .PDF editor like Acrobat.  Acrobat was not designed for an accountant.  So the problem is simple - how does an accountant effectively prepare and review their .PDF workpapers in Acrobat the same way they used to in the paper world?  How do they quickly add calculator tapes, tickmarks, cross references and page sign-offs to .PDF workpapers?   

2.   When firms outsource work to the TAX SCAN vendors, they receive a .PDF file back that is not 100% completed.  Since OCR usually only recognizes about 75% of the documents, the accountant needs to quickly bookmark and repaginate the remaining 25% of the documents categorized as “Unrecognized”.   They also need to add tape totals, tickmarks, cross references and page sign-offs.  Simply put... they need an effective way to “finish” their work.


PROCESS IMPROVEMENT

TTC changed the way accounting firms do business.  TTC adds the accounting centric functionality to Acrobat that allows a firm to document, prepare and review .PDF workpapers the same way they did in the paper world.  TTC’s integration to all the TAX SCAN applications also allows the accountant to quickly bookmark “Unrecognized” documents.  As a result, TTC “enables” a firm to:

2.   Implement a firm wide paperless environment, regardless of the TAX SCAN vendor they chose.
